Two ARF countries forged closer links through Group 1 success when Mongolian Khan (AUS) won the Group 1 TV3 New Zealand Derby (2400m) at Ellerslie Racecourse in Auckland in February.
Mongolian Khan, trained at Cambridge by Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman, is owned by Mr Lang Lin's Inner Mongolia Rider Horse Group and the three-year-old colt has won six of his last seven starts.
Mr Lang Lin of the Rider Horse Group was at Ellerslie to see his colt win the classic, along with a delegation of Chinese visitors Mr Lang Lin had invited to New Zealand for the major race day.
Mongolian Khan now commences an Australian campaign with the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) on Saturday and then to the Group 1 BMW Australian Derby (2400m) at Randwick on April 4th.
The Inner Mongolia Rider Horse Group have purchased upwards of 600 New Zealand thoroughbreds for export.
