Asian Racing Federation jurisdiction Australia was the scene of one of the great racing feats on Saturday when the current world’s highest rated thoroughbred Winx (AUS) won the race named after her, the Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m), at Randwick, Sydney, winning her 26th race in succession and creating a new world record of 19 Group 1 victories.

The Chris Waller trained seven-year-old Street Cry mare, under leading jockey Hugh Bowman, was commencing her 2018 spring campaign in the Winx Stakes, formerly the Warwick Stakes and being run at Group 1 level for the first time, and in a definitive display for power galloping she won by 2L.

The remarkable string of 26 victories was one more than the famous Australian sprinter Black Caviar (AUS) with Winx now considered one of the best mares to have ever raced.

The quality of the win was franked by the race time of the final 600m at 33.36, with Winx herself timed at 32.33. Winx also won racing down the outside of the track when earlier races had shown a preference for racing closer to the rails.

Bowman had settled Winx in eighth place and improved from the 500m to close on the early leaders racing on the very outside of the field. With the famous surge and turn of foot that Winx is renowned for she left the field behind to storm to victory before an appreciative crowd on-course and a world-wide audience watching the race broadcast.

The win confirmed the rating that Winx held in the latest LONGINES World's Best Racehorse rankings issued on August 19th, 2018, of 130 as the leading racehorse in the world.

Winx will next race in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on September 15th followed by the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on October 6th and the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 27th. If Winx wins the Cox Plate it will be an unprecedented fourth straight win in the famous weight-for-age contest.

Overall Winx has won 30 of her 36 starts and with three second places. She has won stakes of A$19,290,424.
