The Dubai World Cup meeting at Meydan on March 26th, 2017, provided the leading performance of the latest rankings when Arrogate (USA) won the Dubai World Cup Sponsored by Emirates Airline (G1).

The win placed Arrogate [134] alone at the top of the second edition of the LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings for 2017.

In Dubai, Arrogate missed the break and put in a last-to-first performance under jockey Mike Smith. The 4-year-old colt caught Gun Runner (USA) [123] in the stretch to win by a comfortable 2 ¼ lengths. Arrogate, the 2016 LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse, started his 2017 season with an easy victory in the Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (G1) over Shaman Ghost (CAN) [119], who went on to win the Santa Anita Handicap presented by San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino (G1) in his next start.

Sitting just behind Arrogate in the latest rankings is Winx (AUS) [132], who has won 17 consecutive races. Most recently, she defeated Hartnell (GB) [123] by 5 ¼ lengths in the LONGINES Queen Elizabeth Stakes (G1). Winx, who finished 2016 as the highest rated turf horse and highest rated filly/mare in the world, also has notched victories in the China Horse Club George Ryder (G1), TAB Chipping Norton Stakes (G1) and The Star Apollo Stakes (G2) this year.

With their efforts thus far in 2017, both Arrogate and Winx have already equalled the ratings they finished on in 2016. Both are scheduled to have a layoff before returning to the track later this year.

In addition to Winx in Australia, veteran sprinter Chautauqua (AUS) [122] made headlines by winning the Darley T J Smith Stakes (G1) by a head, Jameka (AUS) [120] pulled away to take The BMW (G1) over TAB Australian Cup (G1) winner Humidor (NZ) [118], Our Ivanhowe (GER) [119] defeated Hartnell in the Ranvet Stakes (G1), and Palentino (AUS) [119] won the Incognitus Blamey Stakes (G2).

Meanwhile, Japan’s reigning Horse of the Year Kitasan Black (JPN) [121] made his seasonal debut a winning one in the Osaka Hai (G1) by beating Staphanos (JPN) [118], and Satono Diamond (JPN) [120] returned victoriously in the Hanshin Daishoten (G2). Both had last raced in December’s Arima Kinen (G1), where Satono Diamond bested Kitasan Black by a head.

In Hong Kong, Mr Stunning (AUS) [120] won his third consecutive race by taking the Sprint Cup (G2) by a half-length over Peniaphobia (IRE) [119].
