The Asian Racing Federation (ARF) is saddened to share the news of the passing of Dr Koji Sato, former ARF Chair and a highly respected racing administrator.  

Dr Sato served as ARF Chair from 2009 to 2014, during which his leadership, wisdom and diplomacy were instrumental in promoting goodwill across jurisdictions and guiding the development of racing in Asia. Dr Sato also played a significant role in advancing Japanese racing on the world stage.  

Dr Sato was a remarkable individual and a dear friend to many in the Asian and global horse racing communities, and he will be so deeply missed.

We extend our heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Dr Sato’s family, friends and all those who had the privilege of working with him. His legacy will continue to inspire us as we further build on the strong foundations that he established.
