Winx (AUS) retained her place as the highest rated turf horse in the world in the latest LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings released last week and over the weekend the Chris Waller trained six-year-old added to her impressive achievements winning her 21st successive race, her 25th career win and 14th Group 1 success as well as being crowned the Australian 2016.17 Horse of the Year.


Winx is currently rated at 132 behind World Cup winner Arrogate (USA) and on Saturday she dominated the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington winning by 6 1/2L easing down under jockey Hugh Bowman.


The day after the win Winx was crowned as Australia’s best for last season for the second year in succession, Waller was awarded the Bart Cummings Award as the leading Group 1 winning trainer for 2016/17 and Bowman was the leading Group 1 jockey. As October 7th Bowman leads the table for the 2017 LONGINES World’s Best Jockey.


Winx will now attempt to win the Group 1 WS Cox Plate (2050m) at Moonee Valley on October 28th for the third successive year. If she wins she will equal the 15 Group 1 victories of the former Australian champion Black Caviar.

Third in the latest LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse rankings, from January 1st to October 1st, 2017, is Enable (GB) at 128 after her dominant performance in the Group 1 Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Chantilly.

By taking the Arc, Enable improved her rating to 128 from 126. The three-year-old filly defeated Cloth Of Stars (IRE) [125] by 2 ½ lengths while Ulysses (IRE) [127] was third, Order Of St George (IRE) [122] was fourth, and Brametot (IRE) [121] was fifth.

Enable has won her last six races, which also include the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (G1), Investec Oaks (G1), Darley Irish Oaks (G1), and Darley Yorkshire Oaks (G1), by a combined 24 ¼ lengths.

Meanwhile, there are several newcomers to the latest rankings including World Approval (USA) [123], who followed up his victory in the Fourstardave Handicap (G1) with a win in the Ricoh Woodbine Mile Stakes (G1).


Humidor (NZ) [122] is ranked after defeating Hartnell (GB) [122] in the PFD Food Services Makybe Diva Stakes (G1). Furthermore, Beach Patrol (USA) [121] has won two major races in a row, the Arlington Million XXXV Stakes (G1) and the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Stakes (G1), while Capri (IRE) [120] has taken the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby (G1) and the William Hill St Leger Stakes (G1), and they now find themselves ranked.


Additionally, West Coast (USA) [122] improved his rating to 122 from 121 by following up his win in the Travers Stakes presented by NYRA Bets (G1) with a victory in the Pennsylvania Derby (G1).
