Cape Town's feature race of the summer, the Grade 1 J & B Met (2000m), was held at Kenilworth with the Brett Crawford trained Futura winning with ease.

It was the second win for Crawford in South Africa's second major race of the year, which holds one of the longest running sponsorships in the racing world, and the third win in the time honoured race for jockey Bernard Fayd'Herbe.

Futura had earlier won the Grade 1 L'Ormarins Queen's Plate (1600m) on January 10th, the 154th renewal of South Africa's oldest race.

Cape Town's day of Classics in the shadow of Table Mountain also saw Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum's Ertijaal, trained by Mike De Kock, win the Grade I Investec Cape Derby (2000m), and three-year-old filly Inara, trained by Mike Bass, win the Grade 1 Klawervlei Majorca Stakes (1600m).

The win by Inara might well see the filly travel outside South Africa to be a possible runner from an Asian Racing Federation country in the Breeders' Cup after her qualification in her earlier win the Grade I Paddock Stakes.
