In the week following Winx (AUS) retaining her world leading position at the top of the seventh edition of the LONGINES World's Best Racehorse rankings, the seven-year-old Street Cry mare won her third Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) at Randwick, Sydney.

The Chris Waller trained mare under jockey Hugh Bowman continues to make new records during her 2018 Australian spring campaign. The win last Saturday was her eighth Group 1 win in succession, she has 29 black type wins and 27 wins in succession.

Her win in the 2018 George Main Stakes was yet another demonstration of the mare’s extraordinary powers.

Winx settled second last to stablemate Egg Tart (AUS) and Bowman allowed proceedings up front to carry on undisturbed as the seven strong field went down the back and along the High Street side of the Randwick course.

Bowman released the brakes slightly passing the 600m going three wide as he tracked Le Romain (AUS) and James McDonald. Le Romain went to the lead at the start of the main straight and then there was a decent gap back to Winx racing in the middle of the track.

For a second that gap appeared to be a matter for concern, but this is Winx and she fixed Le Romain in her sights closing in towards the Group 1 winner, then she was past at the 150m.

In strides once again Winx was gone leaving the field behind with the winning margin 4L over Le Romain (Hard Spun) and McDonald.

Egg Tart (Sebring) and Kerrin McEvoy were a closing third, the margin a short head, with Ace High (AUS) fourth and It’s Somewhat (USA) fifth. All fourth of those placegetters are Group 1 winners.

The time was 1.34.21 on the Good 4 track with the final 600m in 33.81. The final 600m sectional time was the third fastest of the Randwick programme with the two faster times set by pure sprinters.

Winx, out of the Al Akbar mare Vega Showgirl, has now won stakes of A$19,582,424 from her 37 starts and 31 wins, plus three seconds for owners Peter Tigh, Debbie Keptis and Richard Treweeke.

The mare’s stakes total to-date is the highest stakes earnings total of any Australian racehorse ahead of the three-times Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva (GB) with stakes of A$14,526,690.
