The Equine Hospital, located in the grounds of King Abdulaziz Racecourse, was opened in 2019 to support the development of Saudi Arabia’s racing and wider equestrian industry. It is a fully equipped surgical facility with two operating theatres and 29 boxes. The hospital is staffed by a team of multi-national veterinarians who are skilled at performing elective and emergency surgeries, including fracture repair and colic surgery. Radiography, ultrasonography and endoscopy, including gastroscopy are also available.

The JCSA is responsible for implementing integrity and safety rules in Saudi Arabia including the phasing out of raceday bute and lasix, as well as new whip rules which were implemented at the inaugural Saudi Cup in 2020 and which have been maintained across the JCSA administered racecourses.

In addition, the JCSA has joined the International Forum for the Aftercare of Racehorses, to further develop Saudi Arabia’s horse welfare journey, embracing global best practice in implementing care for racehorses in the years following their retirement from the racetrack.
