Saudi Arabia

Key Venues

Two racecourses in The Kingdom are currently administered by the JCSA - King Abdulaziz Racecourse in Riyadh and the King Khalid Racecourse at the summer venue of Ta’if.

The Riyadh venue, which hosted in the vicinity of 700 races during the 2021-22 season, boasts a 2000m dirt track and a new 1800m turf track, with the turf track established in 2020 for the inaugural Saudi Cup day.  The King Khalid Racecourse in the western city of Ta’if, where more than 120 thoroughbred races are staged each season, is the summer headquarters of racing in The Kingdom where the elevation above sea level allows racing to continue on the dirt track throughout the summer months from May to October. The 1600m dirt oval benefits from a 2400m chute and a newer 1600m chute which was completed in June 2021.

The Riyadh season is highlighted by six major race weekends, or Royal Cups, held over a five-month period with each major race day featuring domestic Group races. The calendars at both the Riyadh and Ta’if venues incorporate campaigns for both thoroughbred and purebred Arabian horses.
